TrueType

It does not happen so often that Apple and Microsoft are going the same way, but in the field of typeface development they did. 1991 they started the development of TrueType, because they - as operating system vendors - tried to shake off their dependency from Adobe with its PostScript language.

PostScript is using cubic beziér curves, while TrueType is working with quadratic B-splines, what is not so comfortable.
